US keyboard and the missing characters

Best ways to type accents, European languages and Cyrillic on a US keyboard

There are two different groups of people that this site is for: American US keyboard users that need to type other languages and special characters European and international US keyboard users that want to use the facilities of a US keyboard Furthermore, there are different types of users, occasional and professional. Occasional users may need to type some foreign words or short passages in a foreign language, whereas professional users, like translators, bilingual office workers, etc., type long texts and need easy access to these facilities. International programmers are a special group that like the layout of US keyboard better than their own national layouts as many signs needed in programming are more readily available in US keyboards. Workers in bi- and multilingual organisations need tools that can adjust to any language they encounter. We are looking for ease of use and versatility in the solutions proposed. Ease of use for casual users and regular users may mean two different things altogether. A dozen different solutions are compared on this site. We do not want to hide the fact that we want to promote our own new product, AccentCompose. We do think it deserves your attention but the competition has also its uses. The choice is ultimately yours!
